Presidential Men Visit the AVID classroom!

The Presidential Men from UNT came to visit with the La Vega Junior High George Dixon AVID students. One of the members, Dasjaevian 'Jay' Dixon, is a former student of La Vega ISD, and he wanted to give back to the community. He got in touch with his former coach, Adam Woods, and asked to come speak to our students. They spoke to the students about bullying, transitioning from junior high to high school, social media and the dangers of social media, collaboration, and representing your best self.
The mission of The Presidential Men is to promote academic success, campus engagement, and community involvement particularly amongst African American male students of UNT. "We're an inclusive organization. The focus is African American males because we have low graduation rates. But, we're open to everybody! Sometimes people get that confused," said Jay Dixon.
Groups members that visited were: Dasjaevian 'Jay' Dixon, Brian Pullen, Davon Grant, Jheron Thompson, Plamedi Ganjwa, and Tristen Kelley.
The AVID teachers and AVID students greatly appreciate their time and their messages!!! We look forward to another visit soon!
