Mr. Spicer 7th Grade Science

About Me:
My Name is Mr. Spicer. I am a second year teacher and this is my first year teaching at La Vega Junior High. I am very excited to have the opportunity to teach your child this 2019-2020 school year. I am a born and raised pirate, and very excited to bleed blue and gold once again.  I am looking forward to all the exciting experiences this year has to offer and all the new relationships along the way.
Teaching Philosophy:
I believe the best learning environment for students today in a friendly hands on environment. Science is a great subject to incorporate different interactive activities where students can collaborate with their peers, their teacher, and have the opportunity to see and do things first hand in the classroom. I believe students thrive best in an environment they can feel safe, comfortable, and have the ability to express themselves in their everyday learning.
3rd Six Weeks:
We will be learning more specifically about different plant systems in our everyday environment, including but not limited to; reproduction, genetics and hereditary traits, and maintaining homeostasis in various plant organisms.
2nd Six Weeks:
We will dive into the human body learning all about the different major body systems. Students will be able to recognize and describe the skeletal, muscular, circulatory, respiratory, digestive systems and have a general analysis of how their body works to sustain life and cell generation / growth.
1st Six Weeks:
We will be studying the differences between different types of cells. Students will learn about the discovery and study of cells from formal scientists. Students will be able to explain the difference between prokaryotic and eukaryota cells. Students will also be given the task of creating their very own cell model to show their creativity and navigation of the different parts of the cell.
