Laura Penney » Introduction

Welcome to the 2019-2020 school year!  I am so excited for the beginning of a new school year, and I cannot wait to get to know you all and have an opportunity to share with you all that we will be learning this school year.  My name is Laura Penney, and this year marks my 17th year in the classroom.  Many of those years have been taught in the La Vega ISD school district, with the past six years being on the George-Dixon campus.  I am a 1998 Baylor University graduate with a Bachelor's Degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders, and teaching certification through the Region 12 Education Service Center.  I also hold a certification in ESL, Special Education, and as a Master Reading Teacher.  This year, I will be teaching both 7th/8th Grade Dyslexia and 8th Grade Reading Intervention.

I look forward to working with your child this year, and I intend to work diligently to provide each one of my students with the tools that they will need to be successful. If you have any questions, please let me know by e-mailing me at, or by calling the front office at (254) 299-6790.

I am a firm believer that education is of paramount importance and that it does not stop simply because students leave the classroom.  I want to instill a love of learning and reading in my students and hope that they will continue to grow and improve in their reading skills.
